The Dimensions Sciences (DS) Advice, Coaching, Training, and Support program is now open. The activities take place weekly for a total of 12-weeks from September 12 to December 12, 2022. The programming will be hosted remotely through webinars and virtual meetings.
The objective is to equip participants with tools to empower them in their careers and life. The program objective is to be a forum for our Scholars to: sharing their research results and getting peer feedback in a safe environment outside their institutions; building expertise in areas of interest beyond scientific skills; and providing coaching, enhancing networks, and creating opportunities of professional and personal growth. We believe the impact goes beyond participating in the programming. The program aims to create a long-lasting impact on our community. A hundred percent (100%) of program alumni would recommend the program to a colleague.
If you are asking who can participate in the program, this is a program by invitation only. In addition to the Bridges Scholars, invited guests were selected to attend the program as listeners. The program also includes public forums to involve an extended network of professionals, scientists, entrepreneurs, health executives, etc. We are excited to start this program and hear from you to grow a diverse community of scientists with global impact!
Open to the public
Public events count with expert speakers for discussion of a variety of relevant topics around science, technology, public health, education, innovation, and career development. These events aim to inform the audience on these topics, promote insightful discussions, and connect professionals in STEM careers.
By invitation only
Lead by senior professionals on specific topics to develop skills in a group setting. These sessions are usually 1-2 hours long and aim to bring practical exercises and develop skills relevant to the scientific careers. We aim to provide training in areas such as science communication, entrepreneurship, empowerment, leadership, and public policy.
By invitation only
Evaluation of the technical and scientific characteristics of the monthly reports provided by the Bridges Scholars in a given year. The activity will involve analysis of reports by a Scientific Committee in Residence. There will be a monthly meeting with presentations by Scholars (5-min each) in English, followed by discussions (Q&A).
One-on-One
By asking questions, the Coach in Residence invites the coachee to widen their approach and create perspective towards achieving their goals. Coach will adopt an action model -- at the end of the session the coachee identifies the actions they will take. When working one-on-one, it is up to the coach and coachee to schedule sessions. The level of engagement and frequency of sessions is up to the coach and coachee.
One-on-One
Different from coaching in that the mentor may have scientific experience and offer expert advice on career path and overall professional direction based on their own experiences. Mentoring will be provided in group events and individually. When working one-on-one, it is up to the involved parties to schedule sessions. The level of engagement and frequency of sessions is up to the mentor and mentee.

The Bridges program provides scholarships and mentoring for scientists from underrepresented backgrounds who are performing research with practical applications in the life sciences and health sciences and are currently working without monetary compensation in Brazil, the US, or internationally. The inaugural program in 2020 supported seven Brazilian scientists working in COVID-19 research. Since then, the program is called “Bridges” because it aims to connect scientists to opportunities and give back to diverse scientists through life-changing experiences. We are happy to report that most of Bridges Scholars alumni received one or more subsequent scholarships or were hired as scientists in academic or industry settings.
Danilo Jobim MS, Eliana Monteiro PhD, Vicente Thiago MS, Gibran da Silva MS, Joelma de Oliveira MS, Helina Santos PhD, Sheila da Silva PhD, Gabriel Santos PhD, and Amanda Santos MS. They are scientists from Brazil with a master's degree or higher. Their research has global impact in areas such climate change, materials, genomics, and infectious diseases.
